NBA President Pledges Stronger Collaboration with FIDA Nigeria to Advance Gender Justice and Child Protection

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, today, Tuesday 21st January, 2025, received the newly elected executive members of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria, led by the Country Vice President, Eliana Martins, FICMC, at the NBA House in Abuja.

Welcoming the delegation, the NBA President congratulated the new leadership on their emergence and commended the immediate past executives for their remarkable contributions. He expressed his delight at the appointment of a past Country Vice President of FIDA Nigeria, EZINWA NWANYIEZE OKOROAFOR, as the International President, describing it as a testament to the organization’s impact on the global legal landscape.

During the courtesy visit, the FIDA Nigeria leadership expressed their commitment to advancing gender justice and child protection across the country. They also shared some of their ongoing initiatives and areas of focus, including efforts to support victims of gender-based violence and promote gender parity within the legal profession.

In his remarks, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, reaffirmed the NBA’s unwavering commitment to partnering with FIDA Nigeria in addressing gender-based violence, discrimination, and child rights issues. He emphasized the NBA’s readiness to support meaningful initiatives that promote an inclusive legal profession and create a safer society for women and children.

The Chairman of the NBA 2025 Annual General Conference Planning Committee, Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN, who was also present at the meeting, assured FIDA Nigeria of opportunities to showcase their impactful work at the forthcoming NBA Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt. He also encouraged FIDA members to take advantage of the early bird registration for the conference.

The NBA President commended FIDA Nigeria for their relentless advocacy efforts and assured them of continued collaboration to achieve shared objectives in the pursuit of justice and equality.
