Nigeria Unveils Mineral Resources Information Portal, NMRDSS

In a bid to boost the ease of doing business in the mining sector, the federal government has launched the Nigeria Mineral Resource Decision Support System (NMRDSS).

The Nigeria Mineral Resource Decision Support System is a comprehensive software platform that serves as a one-stop shop for investors seeking credible and decisive information about Nigeria’s mineral resources, facilities and infrastructure.

It is a marketing strategy to enhance the ease of doing business in the solid minerals sector.
During the unveiling of the NMRDSS Tuesday in Abuja, the minister of solid minerals development, Dr Dele Alake, explained that the portal showed the federal government’s commitment to providing prospective investors with necessary information about Nigeria’s mineral resources, policies guiding the mining sector and incentives for investment from anywhere in the world.

The minister said: “Before now, if you are a prospective foreign investor, you have to travel to Nigeria with your contingent to access required information.

But with this launch today, anywhere you are in the world, with a click of a button, you can access all the information you require to make informed investment decisions about the mining sector.”

Dr. Alake said that the system will assist critical stakeholders in the mining sector and potential investors to garner requisite information, which will bring them closer to the industry and provide answers to pertinent questions about mineral resources and mining infrastructure, amongst others.

According to him, the launch of the mineral resource DSS was part of efforts by the Tinubu administration to lay a solid foundation of future economic prosperity for the nation, saying it was the same way he did in Lagos to elevate the state from a poor state, which had an income that could not pay the salaries of civil servants, to the fifth largest economy in Africa.

On his part, the minister of interior, Tunji Olubunmi-Ojo, lauded the transformative leadership that his solid minerals counterpart has brought to bear on the mining sector, noting that the launch of the NMRDSS is a game-changer that will attract more foreign investments.

He said: “Saudi Arabia today has a non-oil industry contributing over 50 percent to her Gross Domestic Product (GDP). If Saudi Arabia can do it, Nigeria can do it, and the journey starts with the ministry of solid minerals. With a workaholic and visionary minister like Dr. Alake working earnestly to attract the big players and also supporting local operators, the sky is the starting point. For us in the Ministry of Interior, we are there to support because a reformed mining industry is the pivot of the Renewed Hope agenda.”

He added that the NMRDSS will benefit not only investors but the generality of Nigerians.

The permanent secretary, Ministries of Solid Minerals Development and Steel Development, Dr. Mary Ogbe, urged critical stakeholders in the mining sector and Nigerians at large to market the nation’s vast solid minerals potential, adding that Nigerians should show their patriotism by downplaying the country’s ills and promoting its merits to the outside world.
