A six-month extension of service has been approved for the newly appointed Head of Service of the Federal Capital Territory Civil Service Commission, Mr. Samuel Atang, by President Bola Tinubu.

The approval of the extension was contained in a letter signed by Chidi Amadi, Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday.

In the letter addressed to the Head of Service, Amadi said the extension of Atang’s service would take effect from Wednesday, March 27, 2024, which also marked his 60th years of age.

Atang, along with the Permanent Secretaries, Chairman, and Commissioners of the FCT Civil Service Commission, were sworn in on Monday, March, 18, by the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf, represented by Justice Sylvanus Oriji.

The letter noted that extending the service year would allow the new Head of Service to stabilise processes for the restructuring of the FCT Administration, occasioned by the inauguration of the FCT-CSC.

The letter read, “I am directed to refer to the above subject matter and to inform you that His Excellency, the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has graciously approved the extension of your service for a period of six months with effect from Wednesday, March 27, 2024, when you would have attained the mandatory age of 60 years

“The extension of your service is premised on the need to stabilise and consolidate the ongoing processes to reposition the administrative structure of the FCT Administration occasioned by the recent inauguration of the FCT Civil Service Commission.”
