The High Court of Lagos State has officially announced the schedule for its 2024 Easter vacation. In a notice dated 5th March 2024, signed by the Acting Chief Registrar, Mr. T.A. Elias, the court provided details regarding the vacation period and arrangements for handling urgent matters during this time.

According to the notice, the Honourable Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, has approved the period between Friday, 29th March 2024, and Friday, 5th April 2024, as the 2024 Easter vacation for the High Court. The court will resume its regular operations on Monday, 8th April 2024.

While the court will be on vacation, provisions have been made to address urgent causes during this period. Each judge will handle all urgent applications related to any substantive cause already assigned to them. However, any urgent application where the substantive cause has not been assigned will be dealt with by the judge to whom the application is specifically assigned.

Notwithstanding the provisions of Order 49, Rule 4 of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019, any case or matter may be heard by a judge during the Easter vacation period if deemed urgent. However, the conditions prescribed by Order 49, Rule 5 of the same rules must be observed and complied with.

The notice emphasizes that the court will make necessary arrangements to ensure the efficient handling of urgent matters during the vacation period, while also allowing judges and staff to take a well-deserved break.

The announcement of the Easter vacation schedule is a routine practice for the High Court of Lagos State, aimed at providing clarity and ensuring the smooth operation of the judicial system during the holiday period.

Litigants, lawyers, and members of the public are advised to take note of the vacation schedule and make necessary arrangements for their legal matters accordingly.
