The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) has announced the schedule and guidelines for the national elections to elect new national officers and representatives to the General Council of the Bar.

In a notice signed by ECNBA Chairman Oluseun Abimbola SAN and Secretary Huwaila Ibrahim, the election of national NBA officers will be held via electronic voting from 00:00 hours to 23:59 hours on July 20, 2024.

The national leadership positions due for election are centered on the three regional zones outlined in the NBA Constitution. The eastern zone is slotted for President and 1st Vice President, the northern zone for General Secretary while the western zone will produce the 3rd Vice President.

According to the notice, aspiring candidates can collect nomination forms from the ECNBA secretariat in Abuja or download online starting March 11, 2024. Completed forms should be submitted by April 5, 2024 deadline.

In a similar electronic voting exercise on July 20, each NBA zone will also elect at least 6 representatives to the General Council of the Bar based on constitutional provisions.

The ECNBA stated that detailed guidelines and timelines for the 2024 NBA national elections will be published subsequently.

The notice has therefore officially kickstarted the process for the next NBA national elections, setting timelines for nominations, voting and return of new leadership.
