The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, has arrested a soldier seen in a viral video torturing a man in his house.

Acting Deputy Director, Lt. Col. Jona Danjuma, who confirmed the arrest in a statement, yesterday, condemned the soldier’s conduct.

Danjuma, who stressed that the Nigerian Army remains a professional force that conducts its activities in adherence with established rules of engagement, warned that no form of infraction would be condoned from erring personnel.

He said: “The Headquarters, 6 Division, Nigerian Army, viewed with utmost dismay the unprofessional conduct of two of its personnel involved in the brutalisation of a civilian in Rivers State, in a viral video making the rounds on social media. It is instructive to mention that the soldiers involved in that unprofessional conduct have been clearly identified and arrested.”

Danjuma noted that the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has directed that a full scale investigation be conducted immediately. He said the GOC assured that no stone will be left unturned in sanctioning those involved.

He said the GOC encouraged well meaning members of the public to continue to provide credible information on unprofessional conducts, adding that the division is poised to be more responsive to the public.
