FG Destroys 2.5 Tonnes Of Seized Elephant Ivory, Others Worth N9.9bn
In a groundbreaking move to combat the illegal ivory trade and protect its dwelling elephant population, the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has incinerated 2.5 tonnes of seized elephant ivory and 2.436.15 kg of skin from other species worth over N9.9 billion naira for illegal shipment
The Director General NESREA, Aliyu Jauro disclosed this during the pulverization of wildlife stockpiles event while addressing journalists amongst relevant stakeholders in Abuja on Tuesday.
In its reaction to the move, the Environmental Agency of the United States noted that it was a big triumph for Nigeria.
It said the exercise will help to serve as a deterrent to traffickers.
