The Nigerian government has announced the suspension of the evaluation and accreditation of degree certificates from universities in Benin and Togo.

The decision follows an investigative report by Daily Nigerian Newspaper, which exposed the ease of obtaining a degree in just six weeks from a university in Benin.

The suspension, effective from January 2, 2024, is part of an ongoing investigation by the education ministries of both countries and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The Nigerian Ministry of Education acknowledged that tackling certificate rackets and degree mills has been a longstanding challenge.

Below is the list of universities from Benin and Togo that are affected by this suspension:
