Anti-CJ Protest: JUSUN Dissolves Osun Chapter’s Exco

The Osun State leadership of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria has been dissolved by the national body and replaced with a three-man caretaker committee.

The strike declared by the Osun JUSUN on November 22, 2023, led to the suspension of judicial activities in the state after members were teargassed by policemen during a protest at the state high court in Osogbo.

The protest was in response to the perceived abuse of office and high-handedness by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Adepele Ojo, amid the government’s attempt to suspend the Chief Judge and appoint the next most senior high court judge as acting CJ, which was rejected by the National Judicial Council

Despite the national JUSUN distancing itself from the strike, the chairman of Osun JUSUN, Eludire, insisted that the strike would continue until the court workers’ demand for better welfare was met

Following months-long crisis in the Osun State judiciary, the national leadership of the union sacked the Eludire-led exco and set up a three-man caretaker committee to administer the affairs of the Osun JUSUN for three months.

Efforts to reach Eludire failed, and the chairman of the caretaker committee, Lawal, confirmed the dissolution of Eludire’s executives. The caretaker committee will work on resolving the issues that led to the strike in the coming months
