Tinubu Appoints New Heads for NCC, NIPOST, NigComSat
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed new leadership across the Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy Ministry.
The Ministry has the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Galaxy Backbone, Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat); National Data Protection Commission (NDPC); National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).
In the statement confirming the appointment of the new leaderships, made available to journalists, yesterday and signed by the Special Adviser to the President (Media and Publicity) Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu appointed Aminu Maida as the new Executive Vice Chairman of NCC; Nkechi Egerton-Idehen for NigComSat and Tola Adeyemi for NIPOST.
President Tinubu however, retained NITDA DG, Kashifu Inuwa and Dr. Vincent Olatunji of NDPC.
Further, the statement said in line with President Tinubu’s determination to maximally leverage on Nigeria’s proven technological and digital economic prowess to reposition the nation’s economy toward greater financial inclusion, approved the appointment of a new Special Adviser to the President.
According to Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Technology and Digital Economy is Idris Alubankudi.
The new NCC EVC, Maida, who took over from Prof. Umaru Danbatta, is the Executive Director, Technology and Operations at Nigerian Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS). He is a seasoned-technical professional with over 15 years’ multi-functional and international experience in Fintech, Telecoms and Enterprise Technology.
Danbatta was appointed in 2015 and renewed in 2020 of five years tenure each. His tenure was supposed to end by August 4, 2025.
Egerton-Idehen of NigComSat takes over from Tukur Mohammed Funtua, while at NIPOST, Odeyemi, the new Postmaster General / CEO, replaces Sunday Adepoju.
