The Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, has denied allegations that he deposed Ibadan-based barrister Chief Yomi Alliyu (SAN) of the chieftaincy title of Jagunmolu of Ede, claiming that the allegation was made to incite resentment.

In a chat with press on Friday night, the monarch said that he had no knowledge Alliyu had been awarded the title by his predecessor and that when the legal practitioner contacted him to complain about him holding the title, he shelved the idea.

According to a statement issued by the planning committee for Timi’s 15th coronation, Oba Lawal would bestow the title of Jagunmolu of Ede on a former Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, as part of the festivities.

In a statement in response to Dambazau’s intended installation, Alliyu stated that he was installed as the Jagunmolu of Edeland in March 1999 by the immediate previous Timi, Oba Tijanni Oyedokun.
