Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has sworn in Justice Maurice Ahemba Ikpambese as the Acting Chief Judge of the state.

Ortom, while performing the swearing-in ceremony at the Benue People’s House, Makurdi, said Justice Ikpambese is taking over the mantle of leadership of the judiciary in the state from Justice Aondover Kakaan, who was formerly ushered out of the state’s service earlier on Thursday.

According to the Governor, Justice Ikpambese is believed to be a fair, just and firm officer of the law. “It is these qualities in addition to many others that have accounted for his career progress and eventual elevation to this exalted position of Chief Judgem”, he said.

He said it is not a mere coincidence that we are witnessing the smooth transition from Justice Kakaan and Justice Ikpambese without hostilities from the senior judges.

“It is a symbolic representation of unity, respect and goodwill that exist in the Benue judiciary,” he stated.

Governor Ortom expressed the hope that Justice Ikpambese will not just tow the footsteps of the previous Chief Judges but even strive to surpass them.

The Governor pointed out that the appointment is coming at a time when election and litigations resulting from them are around the corner, but as an articulate and experienced judge, it is hoped that Justice Ikpambese will avoid all the landmines that are associated with such cases.

He appreciated the cordial working relationship between the three arms of government in the state and pledged to work closely as his tenure of office draws nearer.

Responding, Justice Ikpambese promised to act within the ambit of the law and without favouritism in the course of duty.
