Police Arrest Suspected Kuje Escapee in Kano
The Kano state Police Command, on Friday, confirmed that it had arrested one Abubakar Mohammed Sadiq believed to be a suspected escapee from Kuje prison break in the state.
In a statement made available to press on Friday by the spokesman of the Police Command, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the suspect was arrested at Rangaza Quarters, Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State.
He said the 25-year-old Sadiq, of Badarawa Quarters, Kaduna North Local Government in Kaduna State, was arrested on September 23 at about 6:00 pm, based on credible information, coupled with sustained intelligence gathering.
According to the statement, Sadiq was nabbed by a team of Operation Restore Peace, attached to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department.
In addition, the statement noted that the state Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Lawan, directed that the suspected escapee be handed over to the Nigeria Correctional Service, Kano State Command.
“In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IG Alkali Baba Usman, on Community-based Policing and Intelligence-led Policing, Kano State Police Command under the leadership of CP Abubakar Lawal, rejigs its intelligence gathering strategy and Community Policing engagements.
“On 23/09/2022 at about 1800hrs, based on credible information and sustained intelligence gathering, a team of Operation Restore Peace attached to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department arrested one Abubakar Mohammed Sadiq, ‘m’, 25 years old of Badarawa Quarters, Kaduna North LGA, Kaduna State, a suspected Kuje Correctional Centre escapee. The suspect was arrested at Rangaza Quarters, Ungogo LGA, Kano State. The Commissioner of Police directed that the suspected escapee be handed over to the Nigeria Correctional Service, Kano State Command.
“The Commissioner of Police appreciates the good people of Kano State for their continuous support, encouragement and cooperation. He urged residents to continue to pray for the State, and the Nation and report incidents to the nearest police station and not take laws into their hands. Raids of criminal hideouts and black spots will continue throughout the State, as the Command will sustain the tempo in ensuring a peaceful atmosphere in Kano State,” he said.
