The Ogun State Police Command has raised the alarm that a yet-to-be identified serial killer is on the prowl in Remo axis in the Remo-North local government area of the state.

The state police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this on Friday in a statement.

Oyeyemi’s statement came on the heels of the gruesome murder of a former Miss Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta queen, Happiness Odeh, a few days ago in the axis.

Odeh and one other female victim were reportedly conveyed by an unidentified motorcyclist who raped and killed them last Tuesday. Their corpses were found on Thursday on the road where the suspect dumped them.

Expressing concerns over the killings, Oyeyemi said, “The modus operandi of the serial killer is to pretend as a commercial motorcyclist popularly known as “Okada” and pick his targeted victims as passengers. Such victims who are mainly women will be taken to an isolated area, raped and brutally murdered in cold blood.

“While the command is doing everything possible to apprehend the hoodlum, it is necessary to alert the public to be on guard and be wary of any Okada man with whom they want to embark on a journey, most especially at night.”

The police spokesperson added that for safety reasons, passengers must demand the mobile of the motorcyclist when boarding a motorcycle in the night.

He said, “For safety reasons, the command hereby advised that passengers should endeavour to demand the phone number of Okada rider who wants to carry them at night. They should also make a call to such a number to ascertain its authenticity. This will give security agencies a lead in their investigation in the event of any untoward development.’’

He also stated that the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, assured the public that everything possible would be done to apprehend the serial killer soon.’’  Oyeyemi said, “He urged the public to cooperate with the police by giving adequate and useful information that can assist in this onerous task.”
