Delta PDP: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment in Gov Ticket Dispute

The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Friday reserved judgment in the appeal by Delta Speaker Sheriff Oborevwori.

Oborevwori is, by the appeals, seeking among others, the reversal of the July 7, 2022 judgment by Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja voiding his (Oborevwori’s) nomination as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in next year’s election.

A three-member panel of the Appeal Court, headed by Justice Peter Ige, announced, after listening to arguments by lawyers to parties, that judgment is reserved and a date would be communicated to them later.

Justice Taiwo had, in the July 7 judgment, found among others, that Oborevwori supplied false and forged documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) INEC in aid of his qualification for the governorship election.

The judge nullified Oborevwori’s nomination and ordered that the person, who came second in the primary, David Edevbie (who was also the plaintiff) be handed the PDP’s governorship ticket in Delta State.

On Friday, Oborevwori’s lawyer, Damian Dodo (SAN) urged the court to allow his client’s appeal and grant all the prayers sought, including the setting aside the July 7 judgment.

Lawyer to Edevbie, Ejembi Eko (SAN) urged the court to dismiss the appeal and affirm the judgment by Justice Taiwo.
