NBA-SPIDEL Reschedules Postponed Annual Conference To 4th & 5th Of August In Abuja

The Nigerian Bar Association, Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBASPIDEL) has set up a conference planning committee to organise its rescheduled annual conference.

Recall that the annual conference of the Section was previously scheduled to hold in May, 2022 but was postponed due to security concerns raised after the extrajudicial murder of Deborah Yakubu in the State.

In a letter sighted by The Lawyer, the Chairman of the Section, Dr. Monday Ubani stated that after reconsideration by the Executive of the section, the conference has been rescheduled for the 4th and 5th of August, at the NBA Headquarters in Abuja and is themed: “The Undermining of Judicial Authority In Democracy”.

The letter reads in part: “After a careful consideration, the Executive of NBA-SPIDEL has chosen the 4th and 5th of August 2022 for the Conference at the NBA National Headquarters, Abuja with a theme: “THE UNDERMINING OF JUDICIAL AUTHORITY IN DEMOCRACY”

According to Dr. Ubani in the letter, the Key Note Address for the Conference shall be delivered on the 4th of August, 2022 by HON JUSTICE INYANG OKORO while Hon Attorney Generals of Lagos State, Abia State and Chief Mike Ozekhome SAN have all confirmed their attendance to the conference as Resource Persons.

On the first day of the Conference, plenary session will be hosted with the topic: “Disobedience to Court Order – a Call to Anarchy”.

On the second day, the morning topic will be: “The Impediments to Seamless Execution of Court Order in Nigeria – any way out? with CHIEF MIKE OZEKHOME SAN  as the lead speaker. –

For the purpose of organizing the conference, a 26–man Committee has been created to be Chaired by Chuka Ikwuazom SAN. The full list include:
