Serious Mentorship Key To Successful Legal Career — Joseph Daudu SAN

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Joseph Daudu, says serious mentorship is key to having a successful law profession in Nigeria.

Daudu said this at the sent forth party organised for some law interns by J B Daudu and Co on Friday, in Abuja.

He said that some senior lawyers were doing enough mentorship and asked that young lawyers be helped to enable them walk the rope of the practice for effective justice dispensation.

Daudu advised the interns to strive to be men and women of good character, if they must succeed in life.

“Your character could make or mar you. A good character will take you to the pinnacle of your career”.

He equally advised them to follow the rules and ethics of the profession, when the time comes.

“We have a lot of challenges in the country, armed robbery, banditry, corruption everywhere, the solution of which lies in the rule of law.

“You cannot solve these problems outside the rule of law since, if the law enforcement officers can put their foot down in punishing offenders, some of these problems would be half solved.

“People should pay for their offences to serve as a deterrent to others who might be nursing the idea of going into crime.

” When there was the death penalty for armed robbery, armed robbery was at the barest minimum but now what do you see, some people commit crimes because they know that there is a lifeline for them,” he said.

He admonished them to be courageous, honest, diligent, principled, hardworking, passionate and to promote equality and friendliness in all they do.

Mr Oyetola Atoyebi SAN, who was the guest speaker urged the interns to be diligent and resilient in pursuing their careers.

“Apply your time and be diligent, do live your life like every other person, but remain focused.

” Your passion and how much you give to your studies will determine how far you can go in life, so be committed to your work,” he told them.

Prof. Benedicta Daudu, Dean, Faculty of Law, Taraba State University, who agreed with the SANs, added that hard work does not kill.

“Don’t join the bandwagon, avoid sharp practices because it will always catch up with you”.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of the Lawyers League Trophy won by the J B Daudu football team to the Principal Partner.
