Six (6) members of the National Election Appeal Committee of the NBA have resigned their appointment as members of the committee.

The members premised their resignation on a letter dated 26th July 2022 addressed to NBA President, Olumide Akpata by Chief J.K. Gadzama, SAN, one of the presidential candidates in the recently-concluded National Elections of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Their resignation is contained in a letter addressed to Mr. Akpata, dated July 30, 2022, and signed by members, including Mrs. Funmi Roberts, Augustine Ajineh, Grace Mamswa, and Herbert Nwoye. Others are Stephen Obajaja, Rosemary Chikwendu, Matthew Egbadon, and Huwaila Ibrahim.

The members also described the “mischaracterization ascribed to some members of the Committee as most unfortunate, and underserving ” noting that the committee had voluntarily opted not to participate in the last NBA election to avoid accusations of bias in favor of any of the aspirants; insisting that the allegation of bias leveled against the chairman of the committee solely because of liking a post celebrating children’s day globally as bias.
