The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority has dismissed allegations that its enforcement activities are driven by ethnic bias, insisting that all actions are strictly guided by the provisions of the state’s building laws.
The Authority, through its Monitoring and Compliance Unit, stated that its ongoing weekly enforcement exercises are carried out uniformly across the state, without regard to tribe, community, or ethnic affiliation.
In a post obtained from the Lagos State government X handle on Friday, speaking on the issue, the General Manager of LASPPPA, Kehinde Osinaike, said, “the sealing of properties or structures is not targeted at any particular group.”
“Enforcement actions are solely based on violations of approved building permits and established planning regulations.”
He stressed that all properties sealed by the Authority were found to be in contravention of the Lagos State Building Laws, adding that compliance with approved plans remains the only criterion for enforcement.
Osinaike urged property owners and developers to disregard unfounded claims suggesting that the enforcement exercises are directed at non-indigenes or non-Yoruba residents.
He advised them instead to ensure full compliance with existing planning regulations and to build strictly according to approved plans.
The general manager further encouraged developers and property owners who receive contravention notices to promptly engage with any LASPPPA District Office across the state for guidance and clarification, noting that early engagement could help prevent enforcement actions.
He disclosed that the most recent enforcement exercise was carried out in Amuwo, Festac, Ojo, and Iba Districts, reaffirming the authority’s commitment to orderly development, public safety, and sustainable urban planning across the state.
LASPPPA reiterated its resolve to continue enforcing planning laws fairly and consistently in order to promote a safe, organised, and well-planned urban environment for all residents of the state.
