A 29-year-old man, Itunu Abiodun, has been remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre for allegedly abducting and defiling a 14-year-old girl.

The defendant is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on child abduction and defilement before the Family Magistrates’ Court sitting in Akure.

The police prosecutor, Martins Olowofeso, informed the court that the incident occurred on March 25, 2025, at Kolawole Street, in the Oke-Aro Tuntun area of Akure, the state capital.

He alleged that the defendant abducted the teenager named Okoye Chinaza and defiled her without her consent.

The defendant was said to have unlawfully abducted and defiled Chinaza, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Sections 221(2) and 225 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges when read to him in court.
The prosecutor, however, urged the court to remand the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

In her ruling, Magistrate Temitope Alphonso granted the request of the prosecutor and ordered that the defendant be remanded at Olokuta Correctional Centre, pending the outcome of the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP)

The matter was adjourned till June 17, 2025, for further mention.
